Nigeria plans to utilize robust data and strategic private sector partnerships to advance its “Destination 2030” tourism agenda. The Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort in Ekiti State is highlighted as a prime example of this integrated approach, demonstrating how tourism can drive economic development and community empowerment.
During a recent strategic retreat at Ikogosi, key government officials and private sector leaders discussed transforming Nigeria’s tourism and creative economy. Dr. John Olajide, Chairman of Cavista Holdings, emphasized the critical role of collaboration, noting his company’s significant impact in Ekiti through job creation and agritourism, including operating Agbeyewa Farms, which employs 1,500 local residents and is set to become Africa’s largest cassava farm.
Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, praised the Ikogosi initiative as a model for government-private sector synergy. She stressed the urgent need for comprehensive data to inform policy, attract investment, and foster sector growth, stating that a lack of data has hindered tourism development. The Minister affirmed full government support for the Ikogosi project, with plans to elevate it to the Federal Executive Council for national adoption and host two major tourism events there in 2025. This initiative showcases a data-driven, community-led, and collaborative strategy for Nigeria’s tourism future.
