Visa on Arrival in Nigeria: Everything Foreign Travelers Need to Know

By Nnamdi Nwankwo

The new automated landing and exit card system, effective May 1, 2025, directly impacts the Visa on Arrival (VOA) process for foreigners traveling to Nigeria, particularly corporate travelers and business visitors, in the following ways:

💡 What’s New for Travelers?

The traditional manual landing and exit cards have been phased out and replaced with a mandatory online travel form.

All foreign travelers, including those applying for Visa on Arrival (VOA), must complete this online form before boarding any flight into or out of Nigeria.

This system is free to use. It does not replace a visa, but serves as a security and data management tool to streamline border control and enhance traveler processing.

✈️ How This Affects VOA and Corporate Travelers

Mandatory Pre-Boarding Step
Even with an approved Visa on Arrival (VOA), travelers will not be allowed to board without completing and presenting the online landing/exit form before departure.

Additional Step in the VOA Process
This new requirement adds a digital pre-departure step, emphasizing the need for early planning and attention to detail.

Faster Immigration Processing
Completing the form in advance is expected to reduce delays at immigration counters, making arrivals more efficient.

Tighter Security & Compliance
Integrated with Interpol and international watchlists, the system enhances security screening.
➤ Corporate travel managers must ensure full compliance to prevent boarding issues and travel disruptions.
